In a WSJ piece on the Sledgehammer case that we had mentioned previously, we were surprised to see that Gareth Jenkins was reported as saying that Cetin Dogan should have been fired for insubordination.
The WSJ has now published a clarification:
“An article in the world news section Friday on the "Sledgehammer" trial of 200 Turkish military officers quoted military expert Gareth Jenkins as saying the army should have fired the alleged ring leader Gen. Cetin Dogan. Mr. Jenkins was speaking hypothetically and didn’t have sufficient information about the case to make such a judgment.”
This makes more sense.
As we reported previously, a military panel examined in detail the claim that there were violations of military procedures prior to or during the 1st Army plan seminar, and decisively rejected it.
